Who Needs Frenemies?

So it happened: it was one of those days where I decided it might be a good idea to fit in 2 meetings plus working 2 job- ladies, we all know this is a recipe for disaster, but no, for some reason, I think I’m super woman.  In between running from one meeting to the next, I needed to cook for my friends coming over that night and only had 10 minutes to do it.  My girlfriends arrive and that’s when it happens.  One asked for a glass of water and I almost started crying.  My feminine pride thinks, “How dare I not take care of my guest and offer them drinks?”  Of course I start apologizing and my friends just stare as all the emotions and words start pouring out of how overwhelmed I feel and why.

Ladies, how many of you have felt this?  Flash back to Betsy and Luella- it’s 1950 and it’s all about keeping up appearances.  Let me tell you, my friends in 2015 were very supportive when I started my “why didn’t I offer you water” breakdown and here is Betsy agreeing to bake pie, when she already has so much going on.  Are you kidding me!?  Luella’s lucky she doesn’t chop her up and make her into pie…along with the kids.  Betsy isn’t a saint either as she guilt trips Luella into taking her children as if they were a weapon of revenge.

Ladies, it’s time to get real and be honest.  Can you imagine if Betsy and Luella choose not to be a frenemies?  There would have been tears, laughter, nail painting, hugs, martinis, and maybe they could have even made pies together?  Wouldn’t that have been a novel idea instead of suppressing emotions and pretending they have it all together?  They could have all made pie, ate pie, and saved more pie for later.  Perhaps they could have started the own pie making business?  I don’t know about you, but a girl’s night chock-full of complaining about men and baking pies sounds pretty darn awesome to me.

Ladies, it’s time to get real- be community.  We all need good girlfriends, not frenemies.  😉
